Top Ten List Season 3 Opener Results

Our Top Ten List Season 3 opener was one for the books!! We had a extremely full house with over 300 cars in the staging lanes and a epic car show put together by Society’s Finest and Miami Street Dreams! Our Top Ten List Daily Driver Class and Ultimate King of The Streets Class brought out multiple cars for our different brackets. We had some amazing saves throughout the night with Nelson Pupo (N_Pupo) being by far the most heart clenching by saving his vehicle by pulling the chute on the long end as he raced Daniel Rodriguez (Frustrate_EG) from a Dig. Our 40mph bracket in both classes is based off mph trap speed and our Dig bracket in both classes is based off 1/4mile times for this qualifying event as long as they are with in each classes mph restrictions. Unfortunately we had 4 leak downs on the track causing multiple delays and issues for our Top Ten List Racing. Despite the leak downs we still saw some amazing racing and very fast qualifiers in both classes. Moving forward we will host our Top Ten List brackets between 8:00pm and 10:00pm through out all our Top Ten List events holding our regular races before and after that period to give the public the action they want to see and the ability to race through the night. As you will see in the results below, the delays of the leak downs and massive amount of cars going through the lanes delayed our list qualifying significantly. We return for Round 1 of our Top Ten List on December 15th at PBIR!

Our current list standings and classes are below:

DriftWarzz – Drifting Tech/Rulebook

2018 DRIFTWARZZ – Drifting Tech/Rulebook

  • GENERAL RULES
    • Pit speed is 5mph.
    • Absolutely no burnouts, donuts or dangerous driving in the pits. This will be grounds for immediate ejection from the event.
    • Pit areas must be kept clean. There are tons of trash cans…..USE THEM!
    • No refunds will be given. Once you pay and enter, you are in. If your car breaks or doesn’t pass tech, you will not be issued a refund.
    • All used tires must be taken with you. A tire changing service may be available at select events. All used tires must be taken with you, or disposed of (for a fee) by the tire changing company. If tires are left behind, we will no longer offer this convenience for you.
    • Drivers meetings are MANDATORY! If you have not made prior arrangements with us, you not be allowed on track.
    • Pay attention to and respect the track workers and staff. If you have an issue, or see something unsafe or dangerous, please bring it to our attention immediately.
  • Classes
    • Solo (Beginners Class and Novice Class ) – Drivers who have just started drifting and need practice and instructional ride-alongs, and drivers who have proven themselves to have control of the car, who can make solid runs. Instructional ride-alongs are provided only by Advanced class drivers that DriftWarzz has approved.
    • Intermediate: (Intermediate Class) – – Drivers who have proven themselves to have control of the car, drivers who can make mostly solid runs (spinning out on occasion). Also newly caged or caged drivers from other areas we need to evaluate for A class.
    • Tandem (Advanced Class) – Drivers who have proven themselves not only to have control of the car, but also to have control of their car when multiple cars are on the track at the same time. These drivers must have an approved roll cage installed in their car to be in this class. This is the only class permitted to have a single passenger.
    • ANOTHER note about classes: just because you have a cage, DOES NOT automatically put you in Advanced class, or mean you’re able to tandem at our events. If you’re a new driver, or from out of town with a cage, we will put you in Beginners or Novice class for a run group, so we can see you drive, and know that you’re not going to be endangering other drivers or yourself by running tandem. Please remember this isn’t a punishment, or a judgement. Honestly, we want to see EVERYONE running sick tandems with cages. we just need to know you’re up to it and can do it safely.

**DriftWarzz staff reserves the right to move a driver up or down in class as we feel is needed**

DRIFTWARZZ TECH REQUIREMENTS

You will not be allowed on track until you have gone through tech. If you pull to the line without a check mark on your car, you will be asked to pull to the tech shed and will have to wait until an official has time to come tech your car. COME EARLY TO GET THROUGH TECH QUICKLY AND ONTO THE TRACK!

  • DRIVER/SAFETY EQUIPMENT: NON-NEGOTIABLE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THESE ITEMS, YOU WILL NOT DRIVE.
    • SA2010 or newer full faced helmet required. **DOT motorcycle helmets will NOT pass** Open face helmets are ONLY allowed with 4-point harnesses, and NOT allowed with stock belts.
    • Long pants, closed toe shoes and shirts required.
    • Fire extinguishers are mandatory for all cars. They must be securely mounted in a “quick release mount”, within reach of the driver while buckled in. These can be bought for less than $20 and are required.
  • ENGINE
    • No fluid leaks
    • If your engine has rod knock/is on the verge of death, you will not be allowed on track. If the knock/death sentence comes during the event, you will be asked to stop driving. WE DON’T WANT TO CLEAN UP OIL OFF THE TRACK!
    • Coolant overflow tank is mandatory
    • Oil Catch can is mandatory if you have modified your engine/intake/PCV. A COMPLETELY stock engine with factory PCV system intact will be allowed to run as-is.
    • Gas cap must be present and sealed.
    • If you have fuel cell instead of a stock tank, it must be top port (no bottom sump drag style cells), and it must be completely separated from the passenger compartment of the car by a sealed metal firewall.

    • All wiring should be insulated/covered/taped/NO COPPER SHOWING!
    • Battery must be TIGHTLY SECURED! No floppy batteries! (no zip ties, ratchet straps, or bungees)

    • welded/LSD/locking diff is HIGHLY recommended

  • SEATS/HARNESSES/INTERIOR
    • ALL LOOSE ITEMS MUST BE REMOVED FROM CAR. If it is not bolted down, it needs to be removed from your car before driving.
    • Seats must be securely mounted
    • If harnesses are installed a harness bar must be installed. Harnesses MAY NOT be bolted directly to the floor. A strut tower bar is NOT a harness bar. if you need to know how to properly mount your harnesses, google it. there’s even pictures and stuff.
    • Lap AND Shoulder belt MUST be used
    • Seat belts/Harnesses must be used at all times.
    • Due to their design, we prefer stock belts with stock seats, and aftermarket harnesses with aftermarket seats.
  • BODY/ GLASS
    • Windshield must not have ANY cracks interfering with the driver’s view. small cracks are up to the discretion of the Tech official, but the general rule is if it touches your window frame in two places, it will NOT pass tech.
    • Tow straps are HIGHLY recommended. Factory tow hooks are accepted, but tow straps will be much safer for towing your car. It’s not our fault if you aero gets ripped off pulling you out of the weeds.
    • Hood and trunk must be securely latched with OEM latches or pins.
    • Please secure your aero appropriately, or just take it off. We don’t want to have to go get your bumper or side skirt after every run.
  • Roll Cage
    • All roll cages will be thoroughly inspected.
    • All Convertibles must have a 4-point Roll Bar. Miata 2 point “style bars” do not qualify.

    • Roll cage must have x or double horizontal bars on both front doors for tandem
    • 98% of Bolt in roll cages (basic Cusco, god speed, ebay, etc) are NOT allowed for tandem driving. the ONLY exceptions are Safety 21 or Autopower, if installed correctly, and modified for double door bars. if door bars are removable and not fully welded in, they must be slip joint style, not flanged.
    • must be double plated at all chassis mounting points, and use proper grade 8 or above rated hardware. All roll cages will be thoroughly inspected, especially bolt ins.

Roll cage padding is required anywhere the drivers head can impact the cage.

Top Ten List New Classing & Cash Prizes

Top Ten List Season 3

In an effort to take our Top Ten List to new heights we’ve made changes by catering to our core demographic while still meeting the needs of our faster vehicles. The classes below separate our participants fairly while keeping the competitiveness we’ve always pushed for.

  • Class 1:Daily Driver Class– This class is for the majority of our racers that choose to compete in our Top Ten List Series. This class is designated for the vehicles that are driven regularly and have a trap speed equal to or less than 159mph from both our Dig and 40mph brackets.
  • Class 2: Ultimate King of the Streets (UKOTS) – This class is for the fastest of the fastest street cars that are purpose built for speed. This class is specifically dedicated to vehicles that have a trap speed greater than 160mph from both our Dig and 40mph brackets. This class has a capped MPH of 189mph for the 4omph roll class only.

Cash Prizes

Street Racing Made Safe has always wanted to give its supporters and participants more for attending our events and showing such support. We developed a method for us to give out more than $7,000 in cash prizes per event as follows.

  • Challengers will pay $50 to challenge and the cash will go completely towards the cash prizes
  • Members will have a $100 buy in which will also go completely towards the cash prizes
  • Street Racing Made Safe will supply over $3000 per event for cash prizes so even member #10 will get his $100 back and continue to compete in his/her class and bracket on the list.

Rules

  • When it is time for you to race, if your car cannot run, for whatever reason, you will be penalized one spot. You can ask for a 5min grace period to fix the issue. If it is fixed within that time frame, there will be no penalty.
  • All drivers on the list must be present during the championship event and cash prizes will not be awarded to members who are not in attendance of any events championship or series events

Street Racing Made Safe’s 2nd Autocross event at AMR Motorplex in Homestead, Miami is exposing drivers to a whole new world of obsession.

Street Racing Illustrated | SRMS Cars, Coffee, and Racing 10.14.18Street Racing Made Safe’s (SRMS) second Autocross event hosted at the AMR Motorplex in Homestead, Miami, Florida, right outside the legendary Homestead Speedway, was a something of a culture shift. South Florida has always been a great place for auto enthusiasts. Probably why a private company is investing millions of dollars into a high-end driver’s club next to Opalocka airport. Year round sun, no snow, and very friendly emissions laws allow us to enjoy our machines day in and out. But for the most part, it’s always been about drag racing. Can’t blame anyone, it’s probably the easiest event to host.

Street Racing Illustrated | SRMS Cars, Coffee, and Racing 10.14.18Autocross has always been a niche kind of thing. Turnouts at parking lot hosted events generally have good turnouts. However, they are so few and far between, growing the event in terms of exposure was going to tough. When SRMS first teamed up with AMR and sold out all their tickets, I was impressed. It was new, and people trusted the SRMS name. It rained (or poured) that day, so it was hard to get a good read on what people really thought.

Street Racing Illustrated | SRMS Cars, Coffee, and Racing 10.14.18When they did it a second time under blue skies, I really took notice. Roughly 1/3 of their attendees were brand new. These weren’t the same hooligans from a month ago. All of a sudden the staging grounds turned into a hundred mini-pits with drivers jacking up their cars, rotating tires, comparing times, set-ups and exchanging tips. Tent’s and canopies were all over the place as families were settling in to spend the day. Autocross in Homestead isn’t fade, nor is it fly by night event. It’s growing and maturing into its own animal. There is officially more to Miami than just drag racing.

A large percentage of our genetic makeup comes from our grandparents. They say on average about twenty-five percent from each. Height, moles, complexion, eye and hair color can skip an entire generation and land smack-dab on an unsuspecting grandchild. Sometimes you get dealt a crown of raven-colored hair in a family of sandy-blondes. Maybe end up being a 6’5” giant with two 5-foot-something parents. Other times it’s not physical at all, and you get something completely different.  Like a love of cars and racing. That is exactly what 19-year old, third-generation, automobile enthusiast, Mattia Conte, was gifted with. Something his 2005 Subaru STI exemplifies from the front bumper to the rear.

A resident of Miami Beach, Florida, Mattia, grew up surrounded by great role models. Other than having a mother that’s into cars herself, Mattia’s grandfather, Massimo, (a former Formula 1 driver, Rallycross vet and owner of a 2.5L STI swapped 98’ GC) kept the future Blob-eye driver steeped in the horsepower lifestyle. “I grew up watching him race…” Mattia remembers. “I rode in almost all of his cars, but the [Subaru] was my favorite, so eventually, I wanted to have one for myself.” After saving up, Mattia successfully sourced his dream-ride from a Craigslist ad. Over the next couple of years, he meticulously gathered a who’s who-list of trusted Subaru aftermarket part manufacturers. This resulted in a Blob-eye STI that was as far away from stock as it could be.

The first thing you’ll notice about the STI is the color. Wrapped in battleship-gray it manages to both stand out among a row of cars and blend into the gray-asphalt below it. The color can be kind of low-key, so to break up any possible monotony, Mattia, installed AeroFlow V2 canards, a V-Limited front lip, C-Speed side-skirts, an Invictus Aero rear diffuser, Perrin wing-stabilizers and topped it all off with a 2007 WRX STI roof spoiler. The sheer amount of added aerodynamics might turn some tuners off but fret not. This isn’t an ‘all-show’-type of an Impreza.

Street Racing Illustrated | Mattia Conte’s 2005 Subaru STI

Street Racing Illustrated | Mattia Conte’s 2005 Subaru STI

After suffering some unfortunate (but Subaru-typical) engine failure back in February, Matter decided to turn it up a few notches. With help from well-renowned tuners/builders, the WRXperts, he replaced his stock engine with an IAG Stage-3 closed-deck block, built out with Manley pistons and Toda rods. It was then matted to 2007 STI V25B heads. Assisting with the rise and fall of the Ferret valves, are springs and a set of Kelford Stage-2 272 camshafts.

Street Racing Illustrated | Mattia Conte’s 2005 Subaru STI

If you can get past all that sweet-sweet music, you’ll pick up on the whistle of the legendarily-consistent Blouch 3.0XT-R Dominator turbo. Making all that charged air more palatable for combustion, while not sacrificing response time, is a Grimmspeed top-mount intercooler. None of these fine pieces’ matter if the engine management isn’t on point. Luckily, that’s not an issue. Highly recommended tuner, Mike Botti, of Fat Botti Tuning, massaged Mattia’s built EJ25 to safely belt out more than 400 notes of horsepower utilizing the tried and true Cobb Accessport.

Street Racing Illustrated | Mattia Conte’s 2005 Subaru STI

Attaching all this fine all-wheel-drive power to the ground are a set of 17×8 Enkei RPF1 racing wheels, wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE070 225/45 rubber. Raceland Ultimo coilovers help the Subaru flow over the pavement, while the factory provided Brembo calipers are lovingly stuffed with Hawk pads and are paired with a set of DBA drilled rotors, all the way around. The real beneficiary of Mattia’s excellent lineage is obviously his impressive Blob-eye. The end results of his build are definitely not reflective of his age. Sadly, these days many kids these days in the same position would be satisfied with an atmospheric blow-off valve, spiked lug nuts, and an obnoxious wrap-job. While Mattia admits to drawing inspiration from social media- it’s refreshing to see a tuner of this new-generation go down the right path.

Clean Culture is no stranger to South Florida. They host two, sometimes three, shows down here every year. Even with their strong year-round presence and hordes of fans and crew members spamming the roads- it doesn’t change the hype, excitement or the buzz in the air leading up to a show… and most of the time, that’s just the night before! If nothing else, the Clean Culture crew has mastered the art of finding interesting locales to host their signature events. One of the most unique among them is dubbed the Ballpark Banger in West Palm Beach, Florida. With cars strategically staged around the FITTEAM Ballpark baseball diamond, the guys at Clean Culture do what they do best- set a bomb atmosphere that is both chill and excitement. Enjoy the photos from our coverage below- peace.
